Top SEO Resources
SEO requires an immense breadth of knowledge. You have to blend user experience and design principles with excellent content development and technical understanding. Our series has only scratched the surface on the world of SEO. As we mentioned in the last post, we recommend that you carefully weigh the benefits of hiring out your SEO against the costs of doing it yourself. However, if you’d like to take a shot at learning more, here are some invaluable Top SEO resources:
Moz is one of the top SEO experts in the industry. They created the “domain authority” metric that helps put a number on your site’s trustworthiness. They are primarily an SEO software company, and they have developed a number of helpful tools like the MozBar and Open Site Explorer. Their Moz Blog and Moz Academy are also excellent resources for a general understanding of SEO.
2. Search Engine Land
Like Moz, Search Engine Land is a fantastic site for SEO resources. The site includes a wealth of information, including whitepapers, webinars, articles, and blog posts. The founders have been in the industry since the beginning and were among some of its pioneers. Most of the information on the site is targeted towards those with a good understanding of SEO, but there is still a wide range of introductory articles that are perfect for learning.
3. Yoast Academy
Yoast is a free plugin specifically created for self-hosted WordPress sites. It helps you easily edit your site’s meta data and set up all of the technical, on-page SEO elements. We configure Yoast for all of the sites we develop here at Distillery Creative.
Yoast developed the Yoast Academy to help you configure the plugin most effectively for your site. It consists of a blog and a number of eBooks and courses to provide in-depth training on copywriting and basic SEO.
4. HubSpot Academy
HubSpot Academy offers training courses on inbound marketing and sales. Inbound marketing is a relatively new marketing tactic that focuses on using good, rich content to convert your audience into customers. Because search engines focus so heavily on good content, businesses are turning to inbound marketing to adapt. A good understanding of inbound marketing will help you stay current with these new marketing trends.
5. Google Tools for Webmasters
Last, but certainly not least, Google Tools for Webmasters is an invaluable resource. It does require quite a bit of technical knowledge because it is aimed at the intermediate/advanced webmasters, but it is full of tutorials, articles, and videos to help you improve your rank. There’s nothing better than the best in the business telling you everything you need to do to succeed!
